The over-the-air Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Asus Transformer Prime has been live for about a week now, but it has not been going smoothly for everyone. According to several reports, a Serial Number Unknown error is preventing the tablet from getting updated leaving a bunch of users stuck with Android 3.2.
Although Asus has yet to come up with an official statement on the matter, let alone provide a fix, there is a thread over at the XDA-Developers forum where users are sharing their experiences. Furthermore, a company representative, which happens to be a member of the forum too, has suggested trying the following:
As for the Serial Number Unknown problem, please try doing a factory reset. If it does not work the first time, after the reboot, please try it again and once at the desktop, wait about 10~15 minutes for the system to sync with the server. So far this has worked for users I am directly assisting at the moment on another forum but it has not worked on two particular units that were returned yesterday.
Reportedly, Asus is well aware of the situation and is working on a fix. In the meantime, if your Asus Transformer Prime is also having troubles updating to Android 4.0, see if the solution above can sort things out. Of course, if it works, do not hesitate to let us know by leaving a comment.
